Tattersalls August National Hunt Sale Day 3

  • Another very quiet day at the Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale.
  • There were 273 catalogued and only 78 (28%) were sold on day 3. The Average price was a very poor €1,600.
  • Overall there were 874 catalogued and only 348 (39%) were sold. The Average price was €2,800 which was down 20% from last year.

 

Day 3

  • Keith Watson, the Armagh-based trainer, bought the joint top lot for €15,000. He is a son of Royal Anthem, winner of the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes, and a grandson of Theatrical. He is a half-brother to 2 winners, including Cairdin who won a bumper at the recent Galway festival. He is out of the Strong Gale mare V’Soske Gale, who won 4 times and has the same family as some high class flat runners in Australia.
  • Gerry Hogan was on the mark with a son of Shantou also costing €15,000. He is a half-brother to Fort George, who won his 3rd race at Killarney last month for Henry de Bromhead. He is out of the Montelimar mare Barrack Village and is a half sister to the dam of The Extra Man who won a Gr.3 hurdle.
  • Tommy James bought a 4yo son of Bienamado for €11,500 from Galbertstown Stud. He is is out of That’s The Spirit who also produced That’s My Man who won the Listed Royal Bond Novice Hurdle and the consistent Spirit Leader, winner of the Gr.3 Tote Gold Trophy at Newbury, the Gr.3 County Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Listed William Hill Handicap Hurdle - all in the same season. He also comes from the same family as Crocodiles Rock who won a Gr.2 bumper.
  • Court Cave was sold to Pat Downey for €10,000 who is out of Smiling Valentine, hurdle winner and comes from the same family as Takagi who won the Gr.2 Troytown Chase.
  • A 4yo Brian Boru gelding from Padraig O’Donovan and Clashmore Stud was sold to the Pinkerton Syndicate for €9,200. He is a half-brother to Lord Gale who won a bumper on his debut and looks very promising.  
  • Michael Hyde bought a 3yo son of Oscar for €8,000 from James Williams. He is a a half-brother to 2 winners produced by a Be My Native mare, and is from the same family as the great staying chaser Captain Christy.
  • A son of King’s Best was sold by Gormanstown Lodge Stud on behalf of David Webb for €8,000 to John Kelly. He is out of a Hamas half-sister to Flying Clarets and Borders Belle who were both classy flat runners and were Stakes placed.
