• The prestigious Gain Mares Final, at Ballynoe, Co Cork on Sunday, has attracted 10 entries on a day when www.paradering.ie will launch a new website which aims to buy and sell horses online.

• A magnificent weeks racing took place in Cheltenham last week and it was crowned by amazing performances by Irish bred and trained horses. Irish trainers scooped a record-breaking 13 of the 27 races run including six of the seven races on Wednesday. Irish bred horses won 15 races including 8 of the 12 Grade 1 races.

ITBA Southern Region Forum on Irish Racing

• In what was a seminal meeting, representatives from every spectrum of the Irish racing industry gathered at the Horse And Jockey Hotel in the equally aptly named town of Horse And Jockey in Co. Tipperary on Tuesday 1st March for a ground-breaking Forum organised by the Southern Region of the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association.

• Billed as an opportunity to ‘Have Your Say’ the Forum did just that, as the lecture theatre was filled to capacity by 200 racing enthusiasts, most of whom were industry professionals involved at the highest level. The panel, too, had been well-chosen, guaranteeing innovative ideas and the assurance all suggestions would be considered and implemented if possible by the relevant bodies. It is the first time such an open floor has been offered to such influential industry leaders and enthusiasts.

BACK IN FOCUS 

• Our horse in focus this week is the hugely promising Back In Focus, who ran out the impressive winner of the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday. It was made even more impressive the fact that this was the 6yo's first run over hurdles and his first run in the UK.

REALT DUBH

• Realt Dubh put in a great performance to win the Grade 1 Irish Arkle at Leopardstown on Sunday. He put in a brilliant display of jumping and held on to beat Noble Prince by a shd.
