Now that the new year has finally arrived, the horse racing calendar will be heating up soon. That's especially true given that the Cheltenham Festival is just around the corner. Slated to take place March 11-14, the annual festival will once again represent some of the finest and most significant racing events in the UK, and it could very well set the tone for much of the season to follow.

Go Robbie Go and that Troytown Win

The Troytown Chase is one of the national hunt years iconic early season races run at Navan in Co Meath. Having been won by some nice horses over the years including Notre Pere, Cane Brake and Cloudy Bays in recent times it retains its appeal to trainer, jockey and owner.

Codd was the Star of Wexford Point to Point

The Wexford Hunt hosted the Point to Point world at their track thanks to the landowners the Robertsons and Kavanagh families at Moorfields, Ballinaboola in Co Wexford.

This facility probably now one of the best on eastern circuit always attracts a good turn out. With the racing ground no worse than good the original entry of 167 held up with 108 horses declared.

  • The top lot of the Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale Day 2 was a son of Beneficial from Kelburn Park who was bought by Gerry Griffin for €50,000. He is a half brother to a winner and is related to Brackenfield and Gr.1 RSA Chase winner Cooldine. He will now be going into training with Nicky Richards.

  • The top lot of the Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale Day 1 was a 3yo son of Scorpion who was bought by Aiden Murphy for €80,000. He was sold by Ennel Bloodstock and is a half brother to Another Jewel and is realted to the Champion Hurdler Istabraq.  

Thoroughbred NH Horse Sale at DBS Day 2 Review

 

Horse Sale Review from DBS NH Thoroughbred Sale Day 2 with the main horses, buyers and sellers. 

 

  • The top lot of the second and final day of the DBS Jumps Sale was the Gr.1 and Gr.2 chase winner For Non Stop from Nick Williams. He was bought by Matt Coleman of Anthony Stroud Bloodstock for £175,000 and will be trained in America. The 8yo Alderbrook gelding is out of the unraced mare Lost Link and is realted to the Gr.1 chase winning mare Fiddling The Facts.
